Building a Spice Rack is a
project that can be fun and practical. This
simple, but handy spice rack can hold many different sized
bottles and will provide years of service. You can build
it
practically for free with the materials laying around your workshop;
I used some 1/4" plywood, and a 1x4 left over from a building project.
Material List:
(1) 13 1/2", 1 x 4 for the Bottom.
(1) 3/8" x 13 12" solid wood piece,
for the Front Panel.
(1) 1/4" plywood; 16 1/2" x 5
1/2" for
the Back Panel and Side Panels.
1" Nailing brads and glue.
Step 1, Cut the Spice Rack Pieces -
Select the
1 x 4; Rip it to 2 3/8"; crosscut it to 13 1/2" for the
Bottom Panel.
Select 1/4" plywood; Rip it to
5 1/2"; crosscut it to 13 1/2" for the Back Panel.
Select the 3/8" hardwood; rip it to
2 1/2"; crosscut it to 13 1/2" for the Front Panel; crosscut
two pieces @ 3" for the two sides.
Step 2, Assemble the Rack - Select the
front, back and bottom pieces; attach the Front and Back
Panels to the Bottom with glue and brads, as
shown above.
Select the two Side pieces; Attach
them with glue and brads, as shown above.
Counter sink all the brads, use a filler
to fill all the holes, sand, prime,
and paint/stain to suit. Replicate the process for the
number of racks desired; attach the Spice Rack to the
desired location; now you are ready to
place those spices where they are easy to access.
